Last month (June 2010) saw a major cigar event in Russia. According to the site MyCigars.ru:

Time for another Perdomo Reserve 10th Anniversary Maduro review, this one from a lady! It’s always great to see more ladies appreciating a fine cigar, so I thought I’d run this review, even though it’s a couple of years old.
Overall, the cigar did not transition too much from it’s primary flavors. Once you get into the heart of the cigar, it pretty much gives you consistent enjoyable flavors of mocha, sweet cream and spice, then eventually rich leather, roasted nuts and smooth aged tobacco with a long finish. I had no complaints with the medium body and lack of a red pepper kick. However, there was some ligero present, it just doesn’t slap you around like a fuller-bodied peppery smoke. This cigar seemed intent on keeping me relaxed and comfortable. On that note, I strongly believe this is a cigar that everyone can enjoy. My husband, who prefers mild cigars, took a few draws off my cigar and almost didn’t give it back. The nerve of him!
The Perdomo 10th Anniversary is made with attractive Cuban-seed Nicaraguan Maduro wrappers and had one of the smoothest finishes I’ve tasted in a maduro. The cigar is beautiful, with a dark, even wrapper and an even roll. A bit on the side of heavy, but that’s the way I like it: with lots of smoke. I thought the cigar might burn a little too fast but the burn was even, with a slight crease at first that quickly evened out. This was fine tobacco, on the sweet side, with some mocha thrown in for good measure, and very, very smooth. Although this was a maduro, it didn’t taste or feel like a maduro, not until I was about halfway in and realized how strong the P- 10th A was. As I reached the end of the cigar I was pleased when the flavor barely changed and the cigar retained its shape and burn.
Perdomo Lot 23, robusto 5×50. Slight pepper taste at the light, but quickly turning to a toast and earth flavor. Well balanced, nice cigar, above average.
This is a solid cigar at an appropriate price. It is well made, flavorful, and a good smoke. It is smooth, well blended, and a great deal for the price.

In all, this was a very fine cigar that did not disappoint in being full of flavor and fairly complex. The edginess of the beginning mellowed to a nice smoothness as it went on, accompanied by a slight increase in body and strength. I enjoyed this a lot and could easily see adding it to my rotation as a nice afternoon smoke.

The Grand Cru’s band states that the tobacco used is from the crop of 2004 – some serious ageing right there! Its smell at cold reminds me of my grandfathers loose ‘Drum’ brand tobacco used for his roll our own cigarettes, reviving a nice memory of my late grandfather who would spend afternoons on his back porch smoking his rollies while tending to the BBQ.
The pre-light draw is perfect and exhibits a light mocha flavour. Thick lush smoke with a tinge of yellow is the first observable trait upon lighting the Perdomo up – a sight I’ve not seen since enjoying a Camacho Liberty 2008 with Joel of LeoJay Photography fame.
The Perdomo begins with an almond and honey roasted nut flavour. There is very little spice or pepper evident. A perfect draw and very smooth taste gives indications that this cigar will be a finger burner. My wife Kos, an occasional smoker has a puff and duly notes the honey flavour and states that ‘it is a very nice cigar’ – not sure how much validity that statement has, but she immediately asks for another puff – it must be nice! The nut flavour continues throughout the cigar. A very mellow cigar that only changes direction slightly with some spice in the palate as the cigar closes.
The Grand Cru is definitely a sundowner cigar for after a hard day of work or play. Don’t expect to be in rush to do much after this one as it frames your mind for one more sip of your drink and then an early evening kip.

Final Thoughts:
I’ve enjoyed a fair share of this wonderful cigar and I think this particular vitola doesn’t do the blend justice. The robusto I had of the same blend was much more enjoyable and had no burn issues at all. The Champagne is also an excellent choice. One thing that has never failed me with these cigars is their consistent burn and construction. They are dead on with every cigar and I never have to pay any extra attention, I get to enjoy them effortlessly. I would definitely recommend this cigar to anyone, it would even work well as a cigar to gift a new cigar smoker. For those that smoke a few sticks per day, this one would work well as a morning or afternoon cigar and can easily be enjoyed in the evenings as well.
